St. Matthew’s Parish School

Serve • Lead • Flourish 21-Sep-2020

St. Matthew’s Parish School is an independent Episcopal day school for students beginning at Age 2 through the 8th Grade. Located on 30 acres in Pacific Palisades, the School and Parish community welcome all families. Grounded in community and faith, St. Matthew’s celebrates childhood, empowering each student to challenge their mind, grow in character, and lead with courage.

The journey from Early Childhood through 8th Grade culminates in an educational experience that is comprehensive and deeply formative, thoughtfully designed not just to prepare students for high school, but to shape who they become.

In our Early Childhood (Age 2-Pre-K) program, St. Matthew’s students engage in joyful, play‑based, developmentally meaningful learning. Teachers transform big ideas into playful, purposeful learning experiences.

Our Lower School (Kindergarten-4th) program is rooted in inquiry, where core subjects are interlinked through essential questions that focus on students’ relationship to self and others, culture, and community.

The exceptional Middle School (5th-8th) program provides academic challenge, leadership development, executive functioning skills, and real-world learning. St. Matthew’s graduates consistently matriculate to top secondary day and boarding schools across the country, supported by a comprehensive outplacement program where families receive individualized guidance, school selection support, writing and interview coaching, and opportunities to connect with more than 25 visiting schools, alongside integrated ISEE preparation and testing.

What makes St. Matthew’s unique is rooted in our School motto: Serve, Lead, Flourish. Instilled in our students is the confidence to lead and the compassion to serve. Our Character Covenant embodies what St. Matthew’s represents: Empathy, Fairness, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Through our service learning programs, students develop the lifelong habit of serving others and learn to become capable, responsible leaders in the process.
