Westland School

Progressive School Since 1949 28-Sep-2020

Founded in 1949, Westland School is a small elementary school committed to progressive education. It is focused on enabling students to be self-motivated and view learning as an exciting and rewarding process that will continue throughout their lives.

The curriculum, with its inquiry-based, integrated social studies core, develops thematic studies and deeply embeds the arts, science, woodworking, and gardening throughout. Block building and other materials are central to the children’s work and further the learning goals of collaboration, the ability to access and analyze information, take initiative, think critically, and express curiosity, inquisitiveness, and imagination. Children have jobs both in their classrooms and in the school at large. Parent involvement is a major strength in the school’s life.
